Boost your Online Sales

Fine Tune your Catalog

Functional description:

Odoo allows you to define Product Categories, use Attribute Search, focus on Promotions, and push best products to the top of your page in order to boost your sales.

So, lets have a look on how you can:
  • Add other products to your catalog.
  • Assign Public categories to products. You can select several categories for one product.
  • Customize your catalog interface to ease the shopping navigation (Customize menu item):
  1. Add an Add to Cart icon;
  2. Display Product Categories;
  3. Display Product Attributes.

Cookbook instructions:

  • Design and create a catalog structure. Go to the app Website>Configuration>eCommerce Categories
  • Create the structure you want for your products. The parent is the category in the navigation menu just on top of the category you are creating.
  • If you leave the "parent" blank, the category will be a top level category. Else it will be a subcategory of the parent and show as a submenu in the product catalogue
  • Make sure all your products have their categories set. You do this by going to Catalog>Products>Sales>eCommerce catalog (edit this, and set the categories this product is in)
  • move to the website builder (go to website)
  • click the "shop" first (else customize will not show the relevant options)
  • customize is visible at the top left. customize > eCommerce categories (to see to the left the product categories)
  • customize > add to cart (to have an add to cart on the product)
  • customize > product attribute filters (to see product attribute filters to the left)

Activity step 5: Fine tune your catalog

  • Define a category structure for your webshop. Make it more elaborate then you have products.
  • Activate those categories
  • Make them collapsible so you don't show a too complex structure
  • Link your products to categories
  • Have an "add to cart" added to the products from the product catalogue
  • Have a usefull implementation of filters

  • Cross-selling: selling a different, related or complementary product or service to a customer in order to increase the derived income (= trying to sell a different product).
  • Upselling: sales technique whereby you induce the customer to purchase an additional or more expensive product in an attempt to make a more profitable sale (= trying to sell more of the same product).

Cookbook instructions:

  • Suggested product (or alternative product) will be shown at the bottumn of the product page you are looking it)
  • Catalog > product > sales (tab) > (edit) suggested product (and choose the products you suggest - could be both for cross and upselling

  • An accessory product will be suggested as something extra to buy during the cart validation
  • Catalog > product > accessory product > (edit) accessory product

  • An optional product is suggest at the moment when you do "add chart".
  • You need to install an extra component for the functionality (not an app, but an object which is an extension for an app)
  • In order to do that, go to the main screen (hit 9 squares icon top left)
  • Apps > browse apps > (make sure not only the apps are visible, but also the objects) hit the x of the apps filter (top right next to the funnel filter symbol)
type in the search field next to the funnel "optional product". Install the component "eCommerce optional product"
  • Go back to the Website app
  • Catalog > product > sales (tab) > (edit) optional product

Activity step 6: cross-selling & upselling

It’s up to you to play!

  • Add accessory products to your star product.
  • Add alternative products.
  • Install eCommerce Optional Products.
  • Add optional products.
  • Make those items visible on the product website page (from the*Customize* menu).
  • Add also the Comments.
  • Add the item to the cart, with optional & accessory products and take a screenshot of this to show this is working

Note:

  • Accessory products (Cross-selling): suggested in the cart validation page. The selection of accessory items to display is done by an internal algorithm focussing on their significance (number of references to this item from products added to cart, etc.). Those products are supposed to answer generic shoppers’ needs. To strengthen the selling effectiveness, we recommend to select items that can be complementary to the most common products added to the cart.
  • Optional products (Cross-selling): suggested at the moment the shopper adds a product to the cart. They should be complementary to the selected product. The purpose is to push the shopper to opt for a bundle of complementary items in order to improve his experience.
  • Alternative products (Upselling): alternatives which appear at the bottom of the website product page. Displaying these more expensive items aims to capture the shopper’s attention in order to induce him to spend more than expected.

Inform Google (SEO)

Functional description

If you want a page to be found by Google, take the effort to set the SEO (Sear Engine Optimization) settings right. This unpaid methode will still not be sufficient, you will probably have to pay Google also using PPC advertising. But anyway, you should take the the trouble to set the settings for the "free" SEO method right.

Think of keyword combinations a consumer searching for the product on your productpage would be entering. Try to have those wordcombinations defined as keywords to be communicated to Google as being associated to your webpage. You should also use wordcombinations instead of single words.

The searchresult Google displays does not show an optimal marketing text: It will be random generated by Google. You can do much better by having a stunning title line and an appealing 2 line description. Having a "call to action" included (such as: "look at our promotions") is often a good idea.

Activity step 7: SEO settings

Select a page with a product you want to communicate to Google

Hit the "Promote" menu and select "Optimize Seo"

You can now link a number of keyword combinations to your product page. Those should be keyword combinations a potential customer would be using when searching for a solution. You will be evaluated on the quality of your selection

You can also set yourself the title and the additional lines which will show up in the search results. Use a powerpull marketing text!

Set the SEO settings right for one of your products and add a screenshot of this to proof.
